As the prince of Kaiyou Island Saru grew up hearing stories of the valiant heroes of the Yokai World including Raiju the Yokai King’s Royal Guard, and of his young student Chiba Jin. Saru was born to King Genta and Queen Rin not long after they had taken the throne. Saru takes after both his Father who is a Gigantopithecus-like Yokai, and his mother who is a Red-faced Spidermonkey Yokai. This gives him both super strength and increased agility, along with a prehensile tail. Saru also is able to use basic Yokai-tou due to training with his father, mother, and Deinonychus. Saru’s goal is to become a great hero just like his idol and mentor, the current Yokai King, Chiba Jin.
